Layla had managed to run down towards the less populated area of Hogsmeade. She leaned against a tree, panting for breath, bent over trying to hide the fact that she could feel her features changing. She hated being a veela at times like this, she dispised it. Her anger always got the best of her and then she had to leave Adara sitting there like that when she had done nothing. Layla sat down on the snow covered ground, her coat still in her hands. She couldn't go back now, Adara probably had alreadly left, probably would never want to see her again.
Layla drew her legs closer to her, resting her arms across her knees and then burrying her face in the space. She didn't want anyone to see her like this, feathers already spreading out wrecking her clothes. She wish she could disappear.

Adara has no idea where Layla had gone. She had stayed inside for just a bit too long. And it didn’t help that the snow was blurring the edges of her vision. But for some reason, she felt as if Layla had gone in the direction of the woods. It wasn’t just the fact that the most logical explanation would be towards a place with less people. It was also just pure instinct. There where moment when Adara wondered if she where part wolf even when it want a full moon.
Adara wandered off towards the woods; a path that she knew all too well, until she saw un-obscured footprints. Obviously human footprints. “Layla?” She called out, hoping that she would get an answer, “I’m really sorry”

Layla looked up when she hear Adara's voice. She had come looking for her? Layla quickly bit back her tears, and rubbed her arms trying to make the feathers go away faster. She touched her face and with relief noticed it was back to normal. However her eyes were their genetic color, a piercing blue.
Layla stood up and tried to burry the fallen feathers under the snow, her shirt already holding new holes. Cursing under her breath Layla put her coat on and called out in the calmest voice she could muster. "Adara? I'm over here....I'm really sorry, I got angry for nothing. You didn't do anything wrong. I am the one who hurt you, and I'm really sorry!"
Layla started to walk away from the tree but then noticed Adara, and she waved to her, slightly shaking partly from the cold but also because she had almost gotten caught. Though she hadn't had time to burn the evidence like usual.

Adara looked towards the voice and jumped. She wasnt quite sure why she was so on edge, but something seemed... off. "Don't say sorry." She began, catching sight of Layla. "It wasnt your fault. I'm just not used to... looking stupid."She finished sheepishly.
"Is something wrong?" She noticed the slightly bewildered look on Layla's face and felt the same feeling of general discomfort. Something just wasnt right.

Layla smiled trying to get back to where she was before, "I wouldn't say you were stupid. I was in the wrong, so lets just leave it at that."
Layla's smile fell slightly, "ah...my anger just gets the best of me sometimes...that's all." Layla shifted, she felt vulnerable, did Adara know? Would Adara treat her cruely like the others?
"Um, if something's bothering you, you should tell me, ok?" Layla brought her coat closer around her as if trying to hide the holes in her clothes. She prayed that Adara wouldn't notice the feathers pushed hastily under the snow.

"I don't think you're telling me the truth" Adara said, looking down. The snow was messed up. As if someone had burried something. "I don't know what it it. I don't even know if you're quite sure. But you know that something is wrong. I can tell" She paused, noticing that Layla was pulling her coat closer. "Are you cold?"

Layla blushed, this was getting out of hand. She was just going to have to say it before Adara found out the hard way. Layla tried to think of a bright side to revealing herself but she couldn't really think of anything other than that Adara might be the first to stay. After all once the magic of the attraction was revealed most people just walked away in disgust, like she had put a spell on them to make them think that way.
Layla looked down at the ground. "I'm not cold...I like the cold. It's just..." Layla looked up at Adara, her face serious. "Do you know anything about veela's?"

One piece of the puzzle was missing. Adara just couldnt, or wouldnt, fill in the empty space. "They're part bird or something?" She asked naively. She had heard of veelas before, but the concept was still a bit fuzzy for her.

"Well...kind of. Veela's basically are people, mostly women who posses the ability to entrance people, or really just be seductive. This is revealed through their apperance and especially their dancing. W...they also have the ability to perform some magic without the use of a wand. But to get to your point about the birds...when we get angry, which seems to be very often, we transform into something like a harpie. Get a beak and wings, and we can throw fire with our hands." Layla paused, surprised Adara hadn't realized yet.
"Why I left suddenly is because I got angry and I didn't want to transform in front of you." Layla paused. "I'm a full-blooded veela, Adara."
Layla watched Adara for her reaction. Would she run? Would she call for help? Layla didn't know for she had never known anyone else like Adara.

Adara tried not to show her shock. She really should have caught on long before Layla had to actually tell her, but it was just too weird. This girl, standing right in front of her, was a Veela. "Really?" she asked stupidly. She wasnt freaked out; that would be beyond hypocritical.
"I mean, not 'really you're a veela?' but 'really, you can turn into something that can fly and throw fire?" She bit back the jelousy that had crept up. But honestly, even her fellow freaks where cooler then her! All werewolfs could do was bite things and run fast. "That's kind of awesome."

Layla laughed, "yeah, I guess to you it may be. But honestly being a veela has pretty much ruined my life so far. I guess I'm used to it, but usually when people find out they get all disgusted, they rip my feathers out, and try to get my hair. Its a life full of trying to survive just because of something I happen to possess. Most people only see what's on the outside and they don't realize that there is a person underneath just like them. I mean we have feelings to, we bleed and die just like everyone else. All they see is a monsterous seductor that wants to eat their heart out, when all we want...when all I want is just to blend in, just to not have to worry about when I'll transform." Layla had walked over to the snow and pulled out one of the feathers, and turned it in her hands before sending it up in flames.
Layla sighed, "I shouldn't complain though. I know there are people out there who don't even have the power to stop the transformation, that it is even more painful, that they lose themselves. At least I get to try and stop it, I get to remember who I am."

"So you can try to stop it sometimes?" Adara asked, jelousy rising again. She had jumped when the feather had gone up in flames and now she was watching Layla's hands. "And you can use your abilities even in regular form? I would say you're pretty lucky."

Layla smiled slightly, "if you knew the whole story you might say differently. I don't mind what I am but I know of the consequences because of being a veela and the traditions associated with it."
Layla walked over to Adara, sending the rest of the feathers up in flames, the snow holding the ashes and then the ashes quickly disappeared. "So, there you have most of it. Like I said it wasn't your fault, it was all mine. I'm sorry....Friends?" Layla stuck out her hand again for a handshake, unsure of how to make amends, seeing how she had never gotten the chance to before.

Adara shook Layla's hand and smiled. This was the first person that she had ever met that was anything like her. "Friends" she said happily, "Lets just pretend the whole incident back there never happened."
And by the way; I do know what the consequenses are. It'll be harder for you to find a job, a husband. People won't let there kids sit near you when they find out. People shun and make fun of you. Some people may even try to lynch you. And the worst thing is the fear. People that you like become terrified when you tell them what you are and you cant do a thing about it" Adara looked down and let her fringe cover her eyes, now glistening with tears.

Layla smiled, but then as Adara continued her smile fell, she could tell something was wrong.
At first she tried to make light of it, "who says I want a job and a husband? Maybe I don't want to settle down."
Then when she saw the glimmer of tears in Adara's eyes she knew that Adara probably felt these consequences more than she did. Layla stood there thinking about why Adara would be upset. Transforming into something without will, that was the main point they had been talking about. What would mean transforming or being something others feared?
Layla decided all she could do was guess. Not being the hugging type Layla stayed where she was and spoke in her sincerest voice she could muster. "Well, no matter what you are, I will always be your friend. Even if you killed someone, even if your a demon, a vampire, a werewolf, a person who escaped prison, a person who can see things other people can't, anything at all, and I will still be there for you! Cause it's whats underneath that matters and even if what's underneath is a little bit dead, I'll still be there for that."
Layla smiled and waited for what Adara would do. She knew that with others she would be skeptical of them mocking her but with Adara she felt that this was real, that Adara actually knew what Layla went through and probably at a deeper level as well.
